Courtyard Dreams

Ever since I first set foot in the Children’s Art Centre, its history and past have been both humbling and inspiring to me. That the core ideal we still have to fight for in today’s society – children are most successful when they are guided, nurtured, and trusted to develop their creativity – was recognized and championed in this small, beautiful building nearly one hundred years ago is nothing short of incredible. The collective stories and ideas of all the children who have been impacted by this special, secret place almost seem to whisper through the bricks. When I look through photographs of children creating here 50, 60, or 70 years ago, I’m struck by how much has changed outside the Art Centre’s walls and also how little has changed in what happens inside them.

American Elk

Did you know that elk antlers weigh up to 40 pounds and are up to 4 feet tall? And when they are growing they grow up to an inch a day? Nature is fascinating.

Maruf Family Portrait

One of the parents at the school where I work approached me with a project for her husband's birthday - to take an old photograph of his parents and reimagine it for her family to enjoy and so her children could recognize and celebrate the lives of their grandparents. I love this family and loved creating this piece for them.
